Race Report Full Gas Track League 12th Feb

Thanks to Ian Creasy for his race report from the velodrome at Lee Valley.

“Bit of a race report from the 12th February. I was first up in the 30 lap scratch race, the first 15 being neutralised. Had a strong race and never lost touch with the leaders. Coming in 10th out of 24 and on the back of the leaders bunch. In the points race despite not troubling the scorers in any of the sprints had another strong race. Stayed in touch with the leaders and went full race distance, unlike the previous race meeting where I got pulled with 10 laps to go.
Next race was the Devil which I made a complete mess of this time. Wanted to ride on the front like I did last time but was unable to get to the front this time. Was 2nd one out this time. Before I was eliminated I remember looking back and thinking I’m in a precarious position, I thought if I squeak through I’ll kickback and spend the next two laps before the next elimination working my way over the top and towards the front. First time in my short track racing career that I’d felt annoyed as I was feeling good and ready to put in a strong performance. Going out early doors in the devil was a blessing as far as my last scratch race was concerned. Again was able to put in a strong performance and was always in the first half of the field. Think I was about 12 of 24 in the end. Just a fraction more horsepower and I’ll be able to bring some glory to the MVC in the men’s C group track league”

Good Work Ian.  Keep it going!

2014 rider grant scheme closes – £750 awarded to members

Last committee meeting of 2014 yesterday and all 2014 rider grants issued, that’s £750 given back to our racers. Thanks for representing the MVC. Riders benefitted from receiving £10 back per road race and £4 back per open time trial completed. Grants ranged between £30 and £140 with some riders taking part in some 25 events! What a season, thanks to everyone for putting the club colours back on the map. We are hoping to run a similar scheme in 2015, perhaps considering upfront support so members can benefit before they race. What do you think?

Don’t worry if you are not a rider, we have also tried to reward out social and non-racing members by offering £10 off a club dinner ticket if you have helped with a MVC event this year. The dinner is on 6th December and tickets are £28.

South East Regional Track Championships 27/9/14 by Sally Smith

After some excellent club sessions at Lee Valley Velodrome it is fair to say a few of us have been bitten by the track bug so when I mentioned the SE Regional track champs I was excited when Steve Smith, Dom Campbell and Tom Kennison were keen to join me for the day.

Ronde Picarde rise report by Andrew Collyer

September, time for the annual pilgrimage to the Ronde Picarde, a sportive in northern France. Having been rash enough to book some hotel rooms back in February, I found myself canvassing interest and trying to bring together the rest of the arrangements too. We ended up with a group of 10: me, Mick, Harv, Nigel, Geoff, Mark B, Dave G, Kevin and special guests Paul Hicks and Phil Callow. This was the perfect number because we couldn’t have easily fitted any more people or bikes into the cars or Mark’s van. And no one had to share a double bed; although I think one of our number was a bit disappointed about that…
