Herne Hill Vets League – Round 1

Phil Booth made the journey around the South Circular to race under the lights of London’s 1948 Olympic Velodrome at Herne Hill in the opening event in this years veterans track league.

Opting to race in the C group with the aim of sharpening his track racing skills Phil competed in five events spread across an evening where the temperature grew progressively colder. Phil rode in a field of over 20 riders but provisionally he finished 6th in the opening scratch race, 8th in the second scratch, before launching a flyer for the line to take 5th in the win out. In the points race Phil’s lack of a sprint told, although he made the decisive break he could only score one point for taking fourth in the final sprint.

The final event of the evening was an unknown distance which turned out to be a 3 lap dash. Once again Phil made the break taking fifth or sixth place in the race.

Round 2 is on Saturday 21st May.
