Midweek racing update and inter club ten

Rich and Matty Stokoe made their regular trip around the M25 to represent the velo at the TLI summer series at North Weald.

Matty put in another strong ride and was riding in a fast moving group who were racing at 24mph. Although Matty was dropped he was able to hang on to the group when they came round to lap him and his overall average speed was above 19mph for the race.

In Rich’s race all of the categories started together, although it quickly split into a number of groups. He spent the evening chasing riders and ‘won’ the sprint from the bunch he was in at the end.

After the race Rich commented that he was happy with his performance, although it was a hard night.

Rich’s next race action is on Sunday when he competes in the LVRC Regional Race in Essex.

Well done Rich and Matty.

On Wednesday evening a large velo contingent gathered at the Isle of Grain for the annual inter club time trial with the Wigmore CC. With a storm on the horizon the conditions seemed to suit some riders more than others, and their were mixed opinions about how well they coped on the way out to the turn.

Matt Saywell came home first with Dom Campbell hot on his heels. Keith Walker was the first Wigmore rider in the standings, with James Amy and Phil Booth making it four velo riders in the top five.

A number of riders including Carla Button and Sian King recorded personal bests, and based on the provisional results the velo were triumphant against the Wigmore for the first time in several years.

After this event Time Trial Secretary Phil Booth remarked “it was a strong team effort from everyone who rode or helped at the event, and everyone contributed to the velo’s success this evening. It is  sign of the strong team spirit in the club at the moment, and thank you to everyone who sent us messages of support or came out to cheer us on at the race”
