Saturday racing update

The first warm Saturday of the year saw Medway Velo racing on four fronts on road, time trial and track.

First up was Matt Nunn who was riding in the 5th Floor Surrey League circuit race at Cyclopark. Sadly Matt was caught on the wrong side of a split in the field and the strong headwind on the uphill finishing straight meant that Matt was unable to rejoin the front group.

Adalta CC organised the first of their Summit Series at Kent’s other closed circuit at Betteshanger, and Rob Kennison, Andy Hawes and Tom Kennison all rode in velo colours. Rob took sixth place in the 2/3/4 mens race whilst Andy and Tom also rode strongly.

Phil Booth chose to race on the track at the London Dynamo open season meeting at Herne Hill Velodrome. Phil finished in the bunch in the opening points race, although he was eliminated early in the devil. Giving it all in an attack for third place in the win out Phil sadly blew up, but was able to be aggressive in the 10k scratch race before finishing safely in the bunch.

The final event of the day saw some of the Velo’s time triallists in action at the CC Bexley 10 on the Isle of Grain. Sadly the event was marred by a crash involving a rider; Louise Mason was the first rider on the scene and I am sure all members and friends of the club would like to commend her for ensuring the rider’s well being, consequently she was a DNF, however in these circumstances that is not the important issue. Provisionally Matt Saywell took tenth place in a time of 23:10.
