Sportive Report: Etape du Dales and Castles Ride

A number of the velo’s members were in sportive action at the weekend.

Neil Ord completed the 110 miles of the Etape du Dales, billed as one of Britain’s toughest sportives, which aims to replicate a mountain stage of a grand tour, and including some of the roads used in the Yorkshire grand depart of the Tour de France.

In 2015 Neil crashed on the notoriously difficult descent of Buttertubs, but in the true spirit of Medway Velo he returned to the same event in 2016 and completed the distance, including 2,782 metres of ascent,  in 9 hours 28 minutes and 54 seconds.

Closer to home Michael Gore, Carla Button and Ian Creasy tackled the 100 mile Castles Ride. Despite some navigational and mechanical issues Carla and Michael managed to complete the full course, and some more. Ian completed most of the course, despite a slight detour.

Well done all!
