Track league round up – 2nd February

Consistency was the watchword as Steve Smith and Matt Nunn competed in the Full Gas Track League on Tuesday 2nd February. Both riders put themselves in the thick of the action in their early races; Steve finishing well inside the top ten in his warm up scratch race, despite being boxed in at the end, and Matt demonstrated his growing confidence in track racing by launching an attack in his win out, going for a flyer 3 laps before the first sprint, and although Matt was caught 200 meters from the line he was able to stay with the bunch for the remainder of the race.

In the elimination scratch races Matt chose to conserve his energy for the later events and was out early, whilst Steve demonstrated the power that he has been developing recently by managing to break away off the front and surviving the initial eliminations to finish strongly in the clique of final riders, although he didn’t quite have the legs for the final sprint.

The points races saw both Matt and Steve in a good position for the first few sprints, and although they both faded as the races went on they can take heart from another evening of consistent performances and representing the velo.
