It’s that time of year when many cyclists take to a bit of off-season fun not necessarily involving two wheels.
That’s just what Medway Velo’s Steve Smith did when he entered the National Indoor Rowing Championships held at Lee Valley Velodrome on Saturday, 8 December.
Steve finished a respectable 30th in his hotly contested category, men’s heavy weight aged 40-45. He completed the 2000m indoor row in 6mins 47secs.
Afterwards he commented that it felt strange to be at the velodrome and not ride and though he was hoping to row a little quicker, he had an enjoyable experience.
Three other members also forgot their bikes when to opted to take on the 10km Ditton Turkey Run on Sunday.
The wet weather made it a very muddy off road 6.5-mile affair for Andy Smith, Kay Maynard and Sally Smith.
Andy did exceptionally taking 13th out if over 400 runners in 42.34.
Sally and Kay came home together in a time of 1hr 12mins.
