CTT National Closed Circuit Championships

Steven Smith was the velo’s sole representative at the CTT Closed Circuit Championships held over 5 laps of the Thruxton Race track.

Having to contend with the effects of the early heavy rain which effected the junior field Steve rode aggressively, pushing himself to the limit by riding on the aero bars in strong gusty crosswinds to finish in the top fifth of the field of over 250 entrants in a time of 25:37.

After the race Steven commented that his time was an improvement on the previous year, and in much more compromising conditions.

Well done Steve on a great season’s time trialling in velo colours!

Closer to home Phil Booth rode in round two of the East Kent Cyclo Cross League held at the Bay Point Club near Sandwich.

Once again facing a technical circuit with many turns Phil also had to contend with a bridge, and although he was gridded in the top half of the field sadly Phil crashed after coming off it on the first lap. Having picked himself up he continued the race and held his position well, using his speed gained from a summer on the grass track to overtake riders.

Provisionally Phil finished in the second half of the field but in a higher position in the vets 40 race than he did at round 1.

Thanks to Sally and Ben Smith who came to spectate at the race.

Round 3 is at Discovery Park which is on the outskirts of Sandwich on Sunday 13 November.
