Steve breaks 4 hour mark and sets new club record

Steve Smith broke the four hour mark on his way to setting a new club record and taking 8th place overall in the KCA 100 mile time trial, recording a time of 3 hours 57 minutes 42 seconds.

The previous record had been set in 1977 by Ron Dicelife, who also passed on his congratulations to Steve.

Steve’s performance is all the more impressive that he managed this on only two mouthfuls of fluid after having a malfunction with his water bottle in the first five miles.

After the event Steve commented that he only felt cramp in the final five miles, although the last twenty were definitely a case of mind over matter.

The event also saw Smith crowned club 100 mile champion, his third club championship in three weeks.

Winner of the event was Chris Fennell (Thanet RC) in a new course record time of 3:34:49.
