Weekend racing update – Campbell and Smiths perform well

Dom Campbell was the velo’s sole representative in the Southborough and District Wheelers open ten held on the Woodchurch course on Saturday afternoon.

Dom took an impressive seventh place overall, covering the distance in 22:17, a time only 6 seconds slower than his best time of the previous three seasons.

On Sunday six velo riders travelled to Essex to ride in the Braintree Velo Endurance grass track meeting.

Safiya Smith finished second in the under 8s freewheel category, whilst Sally Smith was the first place senior female rider. Safiya’s dad Steve was not to be left out this week and claimed sixth place overall in the senior omnium, with Rob Kennison one place higher in fifth.

Alex Cook and Phil Booth also rode, and thanks to Tom Kennison who travelled to support his club mates, hopefully it won’t be long before we see Tom back in action on the track.

A number of velo members were also in Sportive action: Neil Ord was in action in the Etape du Dales in Yorkshire, whilst other members were in the Castles Ride in Tonbridge; full reports to follow.
