Weekend racing update: Crits in the Park and on the track

A busy weekend saw Medway Velo once again promoting races, although members still found time to race too.

Saturday saw the velo promoting its second set of Crits in the Park at the Gravesend Cyclopark.

In the womens 2/3/4 race Kimberley Ashton broke clear to take the win from Claire Hammond and Hannah Graveney, with Sally Smith riding well for the velo. Whilst in the third cat race Sean Dunlea claimed first place ahead of Richard Seabrook and Alfie Kennard, with Tom Kennison finishing safely in the bunch for the velo.

The fourth cat race saw Matt Hardcastle take the win from Liam Hobbins and Jonathan Rennick, whilst the 2/3/4 race Saw Marcel Six come home first ahead of Tyler Lemmon
and Adam Cotterell.

Race organiser Tom Knight would like to thank the following members who helped to make the day run smoothly: Barbara Kennison, Karen Florey, Nigel Wharton,
Steven Melia-Chamberlain, Tom Kennison, Jill Day, Malcom Day, Michael Stockbridge, David Gaylor, Neil Ord, Paul Daniel, Tracy Daniel, Mike Florey, Amanda Cash, David Mayes, Roberto Kennison, Rich Stokoe, Matty Stokoe and Sally Smith.

Elsewhere on Saturday Keith Johnson raced in the LVRC event at Derby Arena against riders in preparation for the World Masters in Los Angeles. Keith rode strongly to finish in the top 3 in each of his Keirin events, and paired up with Chris Childs from the Thanet RC to compete in the madison.

Sunday saw the velo’s track riders in action at the prestigious Herne Hill Velodrome team championships where the quartet of Steven Smith, Alex Cook, Tom Kennison and Rob Kennison claimed sixth place overall, including an excellent ride in the team pursuit where they finished fourth after catching their opponents from Willesden CC.

Well done and thank you to everyone who represented the velo over the weekend.
