Wigmore 25 mile time trial

Seven velo members donned their skinsuits to ride in the Wigmore CC Bill Philbrook  Memorial 25 mile time trial course on the Challock course. Despite being May temperatures were close to freezing for the early starters, although it did warm up as the event progressed.

First to start was Phil Booth who was hoping to achieve a PB but was sadly disappointed, coming home in 1:07:28. Matt Nunn started 10 minutes later and in his first 25 mile event recorded a respectable time of 1:11:11.

Two of the velo’s time trial power houses came next; Dom Campbell completed the course in 57:32 and Steve Smith in 56:43, Steve taking 9th place overall.

Neil Ord rode in the middle of the field and his time was 1:16:04.

Louise Mason continued her time trial comeback and by her own admission she was ‘bang on the numbers’ and pleased with her time of 1:05:05. Lou was third place woman and commented later this was the first race she enjoyed. It’s great to see Lou racing in velo colours once again.

The final velo starter was Lee Kingston who achieved a PB of 1:06:19 for the 25 miles. Well done Lee.

It is pleasing to report that there were no technical or kit failures for the velos, nor were there any punctures despite a plethora of potholes across the course.

Thanks are also given to Vic Williams who was one of the time keepers, and to Spencer Stacey who cheered on the early riders on his way to be a moto marshal at a sportive.

Jonathan Parker of Team Bottrill won the event in a new course record of 50:48, whilst Brownwen Ewing set a new women’s course record of 59:39.

Great write-up of the event on Sunday. Please feel free to add links to the full results on Spinwheels and also to the photographer Dave Hayward’s website where your club members might like to see Medway Velo riders and others in action.
